Longer Walks

More challenging walks

If you fancy tackling a more challenging walk from Notter Mill, there are a couple of routes to consider.

Heading up the road from the park, a series of quiet country lanes will lead you through nearby Hatt to the village of Botus Fleming.

Whilst there, you can stop for food or sample the real ale selection at the popular Rising Sun Inn, a pub which has been highly commended by Britain's Good Pub Guide.

Avid walkers can progress further still to Saltash, the gateway town to Cornwall. Here you can enjoy views of the iconic Tamar Bridges (pictured above), take a stroll by the river and see the group of swans which grace the waterfront.

You might like to explore the town's heritage trails which celebrate historical figures such as Brunel, who built the rail bridge, and Mary Newman, the first wife of Sir Francis Drake, who lived in Saltash.

An assortment of shops, pubs, restaurants and takeaways can also be found.

If you'd rather not make the return journey to Notter Mill on foot, there's a bus service from Saltash.

Another walk from Notter takes you west through the hamlet of Doddycross and to the quaint old village of Menheniot. Upon arrival here, you can enjoy food or refreshments at the 17th Century White Hart Hotel and relax in its beer garden if the weather allows.
